  • Engineering Apparatus Group Lead at Spartan Motors Inc

In this new and exciting role I was responsible for the training and development of a new engineering group. This is a part of a company wide continuous improvement effort that involved significant process development. Spartan Motors decided to create a new apparatus design team at their corporate headquarters and I was the lead of that group. I brought trans-formative thinking and process to the role for Phase 1 of the Startup. In this phase of startup we designed and built out nearly 40 vehicles that were inherited from a backlog at another facility. We proved that with a minimal team of engineers with little to no previous apparatus design experience we could develop new product, deliver challenging one of a kind vehicle designs, support and train production, develop processes including a functional product structure, and improve levels of documentation at a pace unprecedented in the history of the industry for a first year startup. Accomplishments Picked and trained a Charlotte based Fire Apparatus design team. Participated in a small team of specialists to define a Fire Apparatus Product Structure. Complete Phase 1 of the Startup effort which was to build out orders taken previous to the Startup that were originally intended for build in another facility. Identified as an Emerging Talent (Only 22 out of 600 plus employees were identified for this special future leader training program.)
